Christmas Storm and Sunshine

Values: Citizenship and commitment reflected in Christmas storm and sunshine.

In this essay I am going to talk about a story called Christmas storms and sunshine, this is a story written by Elisabeth Gaskell, I am going to tell and explain how the values of commitment and citizenship are reflected in this story. It is important to say that this story talks about two families that didn’t really like themselves because they were both owner of a newspaper one called the tori and the other one called the examinator. But the real problem of the story was that the Wifes hated each other not all the family. The families were called the jerkins and the hodgsons. The conflict is triggered by a minor incident involving Ms. Jenkins' cat, who later denies her help to Mrs. Hodgson in the face of the sudden and dangerous illness of her young son. At the end of the story, the Jenkins invite the Hodgsons to dinner and both families warn that their differences are not that important . I can I can see the values of citizenship and commitment reflected Because when Miss Jenkins decides to actually help Miss Hodgsons she’s showing citizenship by helping her in a hard situation in which she needs help and lots of attention and comprehension because she couldn’t go through this hard situation alone and Miss Jenkins since she only had a cat felt sad about the situation and put herself into the shoes of Miss hodgsons, This for me is what it is called as citizenship and I think that commitment is reflected to because commitment is when You put your time and effort to make something work so you are dedicating yourself to something that you believe this is a really important value in the story because without the help of Miss Jenkins maybe Miss Hodgson Couldn’t have gone through the sickness of her baby alone. The two Men in this story that are the husbands actually really didn’t come through a lot because the problem wasn’t between them the only thing that makes them not really friends was that they had each one a newspaper business that make them kind of rivals and I think in my opinion that that was also one of the main things that makes the two wives have a lot of problems between them because they were maybe a little bit too much competitive between them and always wants to be better than the other one and that’s also why Miss Jenkins didn’t really want to help Miss Hodgson because she felt jealous that she had a baby  and and her only had a cat that actually she really cared about because in the story they had a fight because of the cat but the main problem in the main thing that made them friends was like I said many times before the sickness of the baby. This story have a theme “ end rivalry before Christmas” because it is a season to be jolly and happy with everybody have commitment and they have a citizenship, love everyone No matter of the differences that make them different because everybody deserves love before Christmas, during Christmas, and every time of the year.
I really liked this story because I think that it leaves us are really pretty message about loving everyone and helping everyone who is in need.

The author of this story use these two family to reflect us the values of commitment and citizenship and also other values that I saw like friendship, kindness, respect, love and The two values that are mostly reflected in this essay. Elisabeth Gaskell, the author of this story tried to make us see Differences as something normal that happens in a daily basis of our lives and I think that it was smart of her to use a Christmas story to show us those values amd the message (theme).
